The Investigative Unit of the Jackson Police Department is supervised by Detective- Sergeant Cole Nethercott, who is a 15 year veteran of the department, having served previously as a patrol supervisor for five years, a corporal and a detective.
Also assigned to the unit is: Detective-Corporal Russ Ruschill, with oversight of major crimes investigations; Detective Brian Gardner with the responsibility of general criminal investigations; Kiley Campbell with the responsibilities of evidence collection, release of property, computer forensic investigations and ground transportation permits. Mr. Campbell also proudly serves as the Teton County Coroner, an elected position with a four- year term of office; and Detective Bill Miller serves in a part-time capacity, assisting with major crimes investigations, internal affairs investigations and pre-employment background investigations.
The unit is charged with the responsibility of:
- Follow-up on criminal cases
- Crime prevention details
- Processing of major crime scenes
- Maintaining evidence and property associated with criminal cases
- Wyoming State Crime Laboratory evidence submittal
- Release of found property to the public
- Background investigations for ground transportation permits
- Internal-affairs investigations
- Pre-employment background investigations.
MISSION
The mission of the unit is to provide professional investigative services to all customers, both residents and visitors alike, with an emphasis on solving crime in a prioritized, timely, and fiscally responsible manner; employing all means necessary that are supported by our profession. This is not to suggest that all crimes can or will be solved, but that an honest effort will be made to do so whenever possible given the totality of the circumstances.
